Nebraska High School Students Attend Pro-Life March in Washington

Students and faculty from a Nebraska high school made a nearly 1,500-mile trip to the annual March for Life in Washington D.C.. Friday marks the 49th gathering of pro-life supporters protesting the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion nationwide.
Madi Gifford is a junior at North Platte Saint Patrick’s High School. She spoke with Nebraska Public Media News from the march and said the energy is positive.
“I feel welcomed. I don’t feel out of place… There’s so many people with the same values. The only thing that you can do is just smile,” Gifford said. “Nobody has a grumpy face. There’s just joy.”
Gifford said this is her first time attending March for Life. The march includes speakers, music, and thousands of pro-life citizens walking near the Washington Memorial in the country’s capital.
This year’s edition takes on a whole new meaning, given that an anti-abortion law out of Texas was recently upheld in the Supreme Court. A similar Mississippi law is headed to the nation’s highest court later this year. Experts on both sides of the debate believe that ruling could potentially impact the Roe v. Wade decision from 1973.
