Nebraska election officials preparing for big day

Secretary of State John Gale is predicting that the presidential race and several key races within the state will yield heavy voter turnout. Seventy-two percent of registered voters in Nebraska are expected to participate in this year's election. Gale recommends that voters review a sample ballot before coming to the polling place to help save time in line. When possible, he recommends that voters avoid peak times like early morning, the lunch hour, and late afternoon. Polls will be open for Election Day statewide from at 8 a.m. Central Time to 8 p.m. Central Time, or 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mountain Time.

Meanwhile, federal prosecutors in Omaha are preparing for any voter fraud allegations that may arise. U-S Attorney Joe Stecher says his office will be part of the U-S Justice Department's national Election Day Program. Stecher's assistant will be on duty while the polls are open to deal with any complaints of fraud or abuse, and forward them to the proper authorities. Stecher says the F-B-I also will have agents available to address any such allegations.
