Construction has begun on a new multi-purpose plaza in downtown McCook, Nebraska. Norris Alley Plaza, as it will be called, can be used for general public use, in addition to events like art shows, concerts, and theater performances.

Mark Graff, treasurer for The Norris Institute, which is helping fund the project, and said the plaza will benefit arts in southwest Nebraska area.

“For people to share their talents, you know, through a venue like Norris Alley, I think is going to increase the entertainment options in this area remarkably,” he said. “I think it’s going to be utilized so extensively.”

Norris Alley Plaza pays tribute to former McCook resident and senator, George Norris. The Institute is still working on a way to memorialize the late senator in the plaza.

The plan is for construction to conclude by early Fall, in hopes of having it ready for McCook’s Heritage Days celebration in late September.
